100% CPU usage with TiMIDIty 2.12.0-pre1b?

Hello,
I work under WinXP on an Athlon 1.40GHz, 512 MB RAM and TiMIDIty 2.12.0-pre1b kills the machine while playing even the simplest MIDIs (CPU Usage = 100%).
2.11.3 works fine (takes about 1% of the CPU time). Both players run with their default quality settings which - as far as I can see - do not differ significantly.
What could I be misunderstanding or doing wrong?

You have plenty of computer power. I have not seen this problem, but you may try to download the Most Recent Release again as there is a comment in the news section of the 2004-Feb-3 version that says:
Fixed some free() functions.
