I have downloaded your full version 6.0mb and I have set the config file to the one that you posted - but still no sound when I try to play. The output is listed as Windows audio driver. I can hear it with my winamp, but that is it. Not sure what to do from here...

Ok, I picked a different CFG files and the sound from the samples MIDI's worked great, but the midi that I recorded using CAKEWALK did not, all that came out is a high pitch whislting and some clicking noises.?

I have just listened to your SAX midi and all there is are drums and a whistling. I am assuming there should be some sax in there as well, but there is not.

I know I seem to be answering my own questions here, but I have gotten it going so far so good. I dl'd the two Merlin soundfonts - but what I want to know is what the channels are for? Does it matter which are selected?

Selecting a different cfg file by itself does not necessarily accomplsh anything. You must also have the soundfont file associated with it and in the proper directory. It still sounds to me like Timidity is still not setup properly yet. Please try this first: - 1) Open the Timidity
- 2) Select "Window" then "Console"
- 3) If the last line says something like "Can't open soundfont file..." you either don't have the soundfont or your .cfg file is pointing to the wrong directory.
If you get the message above indicating the sf2 file was not loaded try this. You should have my TimGM6mb.sf2 file from the installation, and it should be in the "c:\timidity\sndfont" directory if you took the defaults. - 1) Use your windows explorer to verify that you have the file "c:\timidity\sndfont\TimGM6mb.sf2"
- 2) Open Timidity
- 3) Select "Config" then "Load ini file"
- 4) In the Config File box type "C:\timidity\TimGM6mb.cfg" without the double quotes.
- 5) Press "OK" and close Timidity
- 6) Re-open Timidity and Select "Window", "Console" again
- 7) It should say "Init soundfonts 'TimGM6mb.sf2'"
- 8) If it doesn't, copy the information and paste it here in the forum for me to look at.
