I have downloaded TIMidity yesterday and have successfully done a couple of conversions. Both midi to wav, and midi to mp3.
The trouble is, I have noticed a loss of something I can't quite put my finger on. I am not sure if it is just the richness of the music, or loss of actual "instruments" during the conversion. Although I have a nice clear recording, it doesn't sound the same as the original midi.
Hope you can help.

I have not experienced the wav or mp3 having any loss of quality from the midi with Timidity. The only thing I can think of is that possibly the Sample Rate you are using for conversion is too low. It should be 44,000 if you are going to burn it to CD. The higher, the better quality (assuming your PC has enough memory to render it properly). Here is how you check: For WAV output- Select Config, Preference, Output
- Click on the appropriate button under the text Sample rate (Hz).
For MP3 output - Select Config, Preference, Output
- Change the Output from "Windows audio driver" to "MP3 GOGO"
- Click on the Options button to change the MP3 paramaters.

Thanks for the reply. The suggestions you have mentioned I had amazingly for me already done. I shall have another go, and also see if it does the same with the sample midis. I particularly like Waltz of Ghouls, very "Phantom of the Opera." If the same thing happens, is there a way of posting or e-mailing the midi and a partial/soundclip of the converted to mp3?
